Julia Cotton (2025)

Seductive, ruthless, and dripping with deceit — Julia Cotton is the true heart of darkness in Hellraiser (1987). Before the Cenobites ever arrived, Julia was already a monster in human form, luring victims to their doom to resurrect her lover, Frank, from the depths of hell. With her blood-red lips and cold determination, she’s the kind of villain who proves that sometimes, the real horror isn’t supernatural at all — it’s human.

I painted this piece in watercolor as part of my 31 Days of Horror series. I’ve always found Julia fascinating — a character caught between love and damnation, vanity and decay. I wanted to capture her icy allure and the gothic elegance of Hellraiser through layered washes of crimson and gray, giving her a haunting, almost regal presence on paper.

Fun Fact / Trivia:
Actress Clare Higgins originally refused to return for Hellbound: Hellraiser II, but was convinced after seeing how fans embraced Julia as the franchise’s true villain
