In Michael Winner’s The Sentinel, the possessed guy is one of the many eerie figures trapped between the mortal world and the supernatural, a harrowing embodiment of corruption and dread. This portrait captures the unforgettable intensity of his stare — twisted, haunted, and impossibly still — as if the evil lurking within him could reach out beyond the screen. The muted tones and shadowed textures echo the film’s grim, Gothic atmosphere, pulling the viewer into a world where faith, sin, and horror collide.
Fun Facts:
The Sentinel is famous for casting people with unusual physical features in key scenes to heighten the supernatural horror.
The film blends traditional Gothic imagery with 70s New York creepiness, creating a layered, unsettling aesthetic.
Behind This Artwork:
This movie isn’t one of my favorites, but there was something about this close-up image of the possessed guy that just stuck with me. That frozen, haunted stare is the kind of image that burrows into memory, and I wanted to capture that lingering dread in watercolor. Even if you haven’t seen The Sentinel, this expression alone communicates the kind of horror that doesn’t need context to unsettle you.
